Cable Tray Fixing Accessories: Brackets, Hangers and Anchors

Identify cable tray fixing accessories: brackets, hangers, strut, bases, anchors, clamps and guides, with a checklist for a complete support quotation.

Cable tray fixing accessories are part of the support system, not simply a bag of bolts added after ordering straight sections. Define them against the route, loads, base material and approved support details.

This guide covers brackets, hangers, channels, bases, anchors and restraints. See our fittings guide for bends, tees and reducers.

Wall cantilever brackets

Specify bracket length, profile, material, finish, connection detail and required load data. Length and appearance alone do not establish capacity. Review both the bracket and the supporting wall or structure.

Ceiling hangers and trapeze supports

A suspended assembly may use threaded rods and a cross-member or another approved arrangement. Include its complete bill of materials: structural connection, rods, channel, nuts, washers and tray restraints.

Multiple tray levels require review of total load, distribution and geometry. Do not add a new level without checking the assembly and its anchorage.

Internal-thread ceiling anchors

The site term “akmon” is used here for the internal-thread anchor installed in concrete to receive a hanger rod. A drop-in anchor is one product type serving this function, but specify the approved product and model because trade names vary.

The anchor transfers the suspension load into the concrete. Select it for the actual base material and condition, loads, edge distances, spacing, embedment and installation requirements. Confirm thread compatibility and any required setting tool. An overhead concrete anchor is not automatically suitable for hollow slabs or masonry.

Threaded rod

A threaded rod connects the approved suspension point to the cross-member or support. Suitable nuts, washers and connectors complete the assembly and provide level adjustment under the approved detail.

The rod is not an anchor. In concrete it connects to an appropriate fastening system; on steelwork it may connect to a purpose-designed beam clamp. Specify diameter, thread pitch, grade, length, finish and any approved couplers, including required thread engagement.

Rod size and quantity depend on assembly loads, suspension length and stability requirements. Do not use improvised extensions or one assumed rod size for every tray support.

C-type beam clamps

Here “C Clamp” means a purpose-designed C-type beam clamp, not a temporary workshop clamp. It attaches a suspension point to a steel beam flange. Depending on the model, the rod connects directly or through a compatible connector.

An approved clamp arrangement may avoid drilling or welding the beam. It does not replace a concrete anchor, and C-shaped appearance alone does not establish suitability for permanent suspension.

Check permitted flange thickness and slope, load direction, rated capacity, rod connection, installation torque and any manufacturer-required locking or retaining components. Obtain approval of the structural connection before installation.

How the three components differ

  • Internal-thread anchor: a concrete attachment point under its product approval.
  • Threaded rod: the suspension member between the attachment and cross-member.
  • C-type beam clamp: an approved attachment to a steel beam flange.

A functional example is concrete → approved internal-thread anchor → rod → nuts, washers and cross-member → tray restraints. A steel beam arrangement may start with an approved beam clamp instead. This explains component roles; approved drawings determine dimensions, quantities and bracing.

Strut channels and connectors

Specify channel profile, dimensions, thickness, finish and cut lengths, with the required angles, plates and channel nuts. Confirm compatibility; similar nominal dimensions do not make components from different systems interchangeable.

Floor and roof supports

Define base details, height, restraint and protection. For roof installations, coordinate waterproofing, imposed loads and load distribution with the responsible designer.

A base that supports a static tray during a trial is not proof of suitability for the installation conditions.

Anchors

Anchor selection depends on base material and condition, actions, base geometry, edge distance, spacing, embedment and project requirements. A concrete anchor is not automatically suitable for masonry or another substrate.

Specify the approved product and installation instructions, including drilling, cleaning, torque or curing requirements where applicable. There is no universal anchor diameter for every tray bracket.

Bolts, nuts and washers

Distinguish tray-joint fasteners, support-assembly fasteners and anchors connecting to the structure. Define dimensions, grade, finish and length for the approved detail.

Use the specified quantities and tightening procedure. Review protrusions in the cable path that could interfere with pulling or damage cable sheaths.

Tray hold-down clamps and movement guides

System catalogs may provide hold-down clamps and guides with different restraint functions. Their layout depends on the approved support and thermal-movement design.

Where expansion joints are required, request the fixed-point and movement arrangement. Do not replace a guide with a fixed restraint, or the reverse, without reviewing the design.

Cover fixings and cable restraints

Cover clips retain covers, tray clamps connect the tray to its support, and cable restraints secure the cables. These are separate functions.

Single-core cables, vertical runs and short-circuit restraint requirements need appropriate product selection. Ordinary plastic ties are not automatically a substitute for a specified cable cleat. Review our cover guide when scheduling cover fixings.

How to prepare the fixing takeoff

Start from approved support drawings and support types, then list every component in each assembly. A hanger schedule might include the structural connection, rods, cross-member, nuts, washers and tray clamps. Dimensions and quantities come from the actual detail.

Include additional fitting, branch and riser supports where required by the design. Do not derive support count from section count: a 3-metre tray section does not establish a 3-metre support spacing.

Quotation checklist

  • Approved route and support drawing references.
  • Each support type, location, quantity and dimensions.
  • Loads and required capacity data.
  • Base material and anchorage or structural connection.
  • Component materials, grades and finish.
  • Fasteners and channel connection components.
  • Tray restraints, guides, cover fixings and cable restraints as required.
  • Documentation, inspection and supply inclusions.

Frequently asked questions

How far apart should brackets be?

Use approved system data, loads and support details. One spacing does not suit every width, thickness and load.

Are fixings included in the metre rate?

Check the quotation. Ask for supports, anchors, restraints and joint hardware to be identified explicitly.

Should accessories be galvanized or painted?

Use the approved environmental protection specification and compatible materials. Define the finish for each component, not only the tray. See our galvanizing and powder-coating comparison.

Request a complete accessory scope

Rovana Trade lists supports, accessories and channels in its product range. Send approved support details, quantities, material, finish and specifications, then request an itemized quotation. Support design and structural suitability remain subject to project approval.
